I am intrigued by the issue of extensive corruption in the Temple's administration. I'm not sure I understand how that relates to the temple that is Jesus' body. Was it the corruption of our humanity, which he shared, that would be cleansed with his death and resurrection?

Perhaps something like that - the Temple like the body is irreducably significant but the change needed might constitute reinventing it rather than tweaking it? Here the analogy may break down, because there is also a sense in which his body is not like ours. Part of the answer is letting the synoptic and Johannine versions both stand on their own terms rather to to harmonize them too far.
